The Medford Oregon Temple is a special building used by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is the 79th temple built and used by the Church. Temples are important places where members of the Church go to make promises to God and learn more about their faith.
This temple is located in Oregon, a state in the United States. It sits between two other temples: one in Oakland, California, and another in Portland, Oregon. As of 2010, the Medford Oregon Temple served many local church groups, called "stakes," in parts of northern California and Oregon.
History of the Temple
The plan to build the Medford Oregon Temple was first announced on March 27, 1999. This was an exciting announcement for members of the Church in the area.
Before the temple was officially opened, it had an "open house." During this time, nearly 35,000 people visited the building. They came to see inside the temple and learn about its purpose. On April 16, 2000, the temple was officially dedicated. This special ceremony was led by James E. Faust, who was a leader in the Church's First Presidency at the time.
The Medford Oregon Temple is a beautiful building. It has a total floor area of about 10,700 square feet (994 square meters). Inside, there are two special rooms called "ordinance rooms" and two "sealing rooms." These rooms are used for important ceremonies and teachings within the Church.
