Megan Whalen Turner (born November 21, 1965) is an American author. She writes exciting fantasy stories for young adults. She is most famous for her book The Thief and its five follow-up books. In 1997, The Thief received a special award called the Newbery Honor.

Her Early Life and Education
Megan Whalen Turner was born in Oklahoma in 1965. She went to the University of Chicago. In 1987, she earned a degree in English. Before she became a writer, she worked in bookstores. She helped choose children's books to sell in Chicago and Washington D.C.
How Her Writing Career Began
In 1989, Megan Whalen Turner moved to California. There, she started writing short fantasy stories. Her first book, Instead of Three Wishes: Magical Short Stories, came out in 1995.
The Queen's Thief Series
Megan Whalen Turner is best known for her popular book series. It features a clever character named Eugenides. Fans often call this series The Queen's Thief. The first book, The Thief, won a Newbery Honor award.
