Megan Whalen Turner, born on November 21, 1965, is an American author. She writes exciting fantasy stories for young adults. She is most famous for her book The Thief and its five follow-up novels. In 1997, The Thief received a special award called the Newbery Honor.

Early Life and Education

Megan Whalen Turner earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Chicago in 1987. Before she became a writer, she worked in bookstores. She helped choose which children's books to sell in stores in Chicago and Washington D.C.

Writing Career and Famous Books

Turner started writing short fantasy stories after moving to California in 1989. She published these stories in a collection called Instead of Three Wishes: Magical Short Stories in 1995.

She is best known for her series of young adult novels. These books are mostly about a character named Eugenides. Fans often call this series The Queen's Thief. The first book in the series, The Thief, won a Newbery Honor award.

In 2022, she released a book called Moira's Pen. This book collects six short stories that are also set in the world of The Thief. It also includes new stories, poems, and even a special recipe for almond cake.

Megan Whalen Turner is married to Mark Turner. He is a cognitive scientist, which means he studies how the human mind works. They have three sons together.
