Melvin Gregg was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. His parents are Constance Gregg and Melvin Vaughan. He grew up with six sisters.
After finishing high school at I.C. Norcom High School, he went to Old Dominion University. He studied marketing there for two years. But then, he decided he wanted to be an actor. In 2011, he moved to Los Angeles to follow his dream.
Becoming Famous Online
Melvin Gregg first became well-known by making funny videos. He wrote, starred in, and produced these videos himself. He shared them on a popular app called Vine.
In just three years, he gained more than 7 million followers! This made him one of the top 100 most popular people on the Vine app.
Moving to TV and Movies
Melvin's first acting job was in a web series called Whatever, The Series in 2011. After Vine became less popular around 2015, Melvin started getting more roles in movies and TV shows.
In 2018, he got two big roles:
- In the Netflix mockumentary series American Vandal. A mockumentary is like a fake documentary that makes fun of real documentaries.
- In the movie High Flying Bird.
Many people praised his acting as DeMarcus Tillman in American Vandal. Some even said he was like actor Will Smith when he played the Fresh Prince. This role was seen as a "breakout" role for Melvin, meaning it helped him become much more famous.
