About Mercedes Castro Díaz

Early Life and Education

Mercedes Castro Díaz studied Law at the Autonomous University of Madrid. After finishing her studies, she worked as an editor for books. This job helped her learn a lot about how books are put together.

Her First Novel: Y punto

Her first novel, called Y punto (which means "And that's it"), was published in 2008. She spent nine years writing this book. When it came out, many people loved it. It received about 30 very positive reviews.

Mercedes Castro Díaz believes that women are often good at writing crime novels. She thinks this is because they pay close attention to small details. They also focus on how characters think and feel. Even though some might see Y punto as a detective story, she prefers to call it a modern novel. This book won an award in France. It was named "Best First Novel in Spanish" at the Chambéry Festival.

Her Second Novel: Mantis

Two years later, in 2010, she published her second novel, Mantis. This book is a thriller. It combines exciting psychological puzzles with elements of gothic stories. A famous book critic, Ricardo Senabre, listed Mantis as one of the top 10 novels of that year. This list was in a special section of the newspaper El Mundo.

Other Works

Mercedes Castro Díaz has also worked on other important books. In 2001, she helped create a special edition of "Trafalgar" by Benito Pérez Galdós. She also put together a collection of poems by Rosalía de Castro in 2004. This was the first time Rosalía de Castro's poems were published in two languages. Her very first published work was a book of poems called La niña en rebajas (The Girl on Sale) in 2001.

Today, Mercedes Castro Díaz lives in Madrid, Spain.
