Messerschmitt facts for kids
Messerschmitt AG was a German company that built airplanes. It was first started in 1916 and then started again in 1938. The company was named after its main designer, Willy Messerschmitt. Its main office was in Augsburg, Germany.
Messerschmitt built many of the fighter planes Germany used during World War II. They made famous planes like the Bf 109 and Bf 110 fighter planes. They also built the Me 321, which was a large transport plane. Later, they created the Me 262 "Swallow," which was a very fast jet fighter. Sadly, some parts for their planes were made by people who were forced to work in very difficult conditions, often from places called concentration camps.
After World War II ended, Messerschmitt stopped making warplanes. Instead, they built other things like cars, bicycles, and even ready-made homes. In 1969, Messerschmitt joined with two other companies, Bölkow and Blohm. Today, parts of that company are now part of a bigger company called EADS Germany.
