Early Life and Education
Miško Kranjec was born in a village called Velika Polana. At that time, this area was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His father was a tailor.
When Miško was about 11 years old, his home region, Prekmurje, became part of a new country. This country was called the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. Later, this region became part of Slovenia.
Miško Kranjec went to the University of Ljubljana. He studied Slavic languages, which are languages like Slovene, Serbian, and Croatian.
Writing and Activism
In the 1930s, Miško Kranjec started writing his first short stories. His writing style was called "social realism." This meant he wrote about the real lives and struggles of people. He often wrote about his home region of Prekmurje. This was new and exciting at the time.
