A Life of Impact
Mia Green was born in a place called Lundmark in Sweden on April 14, 1870. She later became a photographer in Haparanda. This town is in Sweden, but it's very close to the border with Finland.
Haparanda During Wartime
Haparanda became a very important place during the First World War. This was because the Swedish and Russian train lines almost met there. Even though Haparanda was a small town, it was a major crossing point. Thousands of children, injured prisoners of war, and tons of mail passed through this town. Mia Green was there to document it all.
Mia Green became famous for her photographs during the war. She took pictures of Red Cross nurses and soldiers who were injured. In 1918, she also photographed a serious typhus outbreak in Haparanda. Typhus is a dangerous disease. Her photos show the washerwomen working hard during this time.

Mia Green was also involved in local politics. She was elected to the town council, representing the conservative party.
Later Life and Legacy
Mia Green passed away in Haparanda on June 24, 1949. She had two children, Maria Lundmark and Lennart Green. She was also the grandmother of actress Marika Green and an ancestor of actress Eva Green. The name "Green" is a Swedish surname. It comes from the Swedish word "gren," which means "tree branch." It is not related to the English word "green."
Today, there is a memorial in her honor in Haparanda. It features a bust, which is a sculpture of her head and shoulders, created by Lars Stålnacke.
