Micah's Early Life
Micah Stampley grew up listening to many different kinds of music. Some of his favorite artists included Andrae Crouch, Michael W. Smith, Shirley Caesar, Michael Jackson, Billy Ocean, and Cyndi Lauper. These artists helped shape his love for music.
Micah's Music Career
Micah Stampley started singing in church when he was young. From 1994 to 1997, he sang in a church in Pasadena, California. After that, he moved back to Louisiana to sing in his father's church.
How Micah Got Started
In 1998, Micah married Heidi Jones, who was also a gospel singer. Heidi helped Micah a lot with his music. She even wrote some songs for his first album. In 1999, they moved to New Orleans. Micah became a co-choir director at Bishop Paul Morton's Greater St. Stephen's Church.
A Big Break in Houston
In 2003, Micah became an assistant music minister in Houston. A music expert named Marcus Dawson heard Micah sing. Marcus worked with Bishop T. D. Jakes, a very famous gospel leader. In January 2004, Micah won a big singing contest called the Stellar Award Gospel Star Search. After winning, he signed a record deal with Bishop Jakes and Marcus Dawson.
Rising to Fame
Micah's first album, The Songbook of Micah, came out in March 2005. It was a huge success! It debuted at number three on Billboard's chart. This was a very high spot for a new male gospel artist. That same year, Billboard magazine named Micah one of the Top 10 Gospel Music Artists. AOL Black Voices also called him one of the Top 11 Gospel Geniuses.
In 2014, Micah performed at a large event in Nigeria called The Experience. Over 600,000 people attended this amazing concert. He shared the stage with other famous gospel singers like Donnie McClurkin.
On May 20, 2016, Micah released his album To the King: Vertical Worship. This album included popular songs from his past albums. It also had new hits like "Be Lifted," which was named one of the top new songs of 2016. The album reached number 2 on Billboard's Top Gospel Album Chart.
Micah's Personal Life
Micah and Heidi Stampley do more than just music. They started a company called Interface Entertainment. They also founded a non-profit group called Operation I Believe, Inc. This group helps people and communities. Micah is also a preacher, following in his family's footsteps. The Stampleys also own a food company called Orleans Foods Ltd. Co. Currently, Micah leads an organization called Shift Global, Inc.
