Michael Bearpark: Scientist
Michael Bearpark is a top researcher at Imperial College London, a famous university. He works in a field called computational chemistry. This means he uses computers to understand how chemicals work.
He helps develop special computer programs that can model how large molecules behave. He also studies how light can start chemical reactions, a process called photochemistry. His work helps us understand and even control these tiny chemical changes.
Michael Bearpark: Musician
Michael Bearpark is best known as an electric textural guitarist and loop musician. This means he creates unique sounds and layers them using special equipment called loop pedals.
He is a key member of the band Darkroom. He also plays in a duo called Pedaltone with another loop guitarist, Bernhard Wagner.
Michael was part of the live band for No-Man during their European tour in 2008. He played guitar alongside Steven Wilson. He also appeared on two No-Man releases: the 2003 album Together We're Stranger and the 2010 concert DVD Mixtaped.
He has often worked with No-Man singer Tim Bowness. They played together in early bands like After The Stranger and Plenty. They were also in the ambient-folk band Samuel Smiles, which Michael started, and the progressive rock band Henry Fool. Tim Bowness has also sometimes joined Darkroom.
Michael has collaborated with other famous musicians too. These include Richard Barbieri from Japan and Porcupine Tree, and David Kosten's Faultline. He often plays at Improvizone, a London event where musicians create music together on the spot.
More recently, Michael formed a rock band called Aimless Mules. It includes Andrew Booker on drums, Chris Wild on vocals, Nic Regan on bass, and Charles Fernyhough on guitar. He is also a member of the space rock band Hawkflawed, with Ghost of Wood and Simon Hill.
