Chief Michael Botmang (1938 – 18 January 2014) was an important Nigerian politician. He served as the governor of Plateau State from 2006 to 2007. Before that, he was the deputy governor for several terms, working alongside Governor Joshua Dariye.

Early Political Life
Michael Botmang started his journey in politics as the deputy governor of Plateau State. He held this position from 1999 to 2004. He then served another term as deputy governor from 2004 to 2006.
Helping During Difficult Times
In September 2001, there were some disagreements in the city of Jos. Michael Botmang was acting as governor at the time. He worked with the police and the army to help bring peace and order back to the state capital.
Becoming Governor
On 13 November 2006, Michael Botmang became the governor of Plateau State. He took over this role after the previous governor, Joshua Dariye, left office.
A Short Term as Leader
Chief Botmang was governor until 27 April 2007. A court decision then led to Joshua Dariye returning to his position as governor. After this, Michael Botmang served again as deputy governor for a short time, from April to May 2007.
A Special Achievement
When Michael Botmang became governor, he made history. He was the first person from the Berom community to become the governor of Plateau State. This was a proud moment for his people.
Later Life and Legacy
Michael Botmang faced some legal questions after his time as governor. However, in 2013, the investigations concluded. It was found that the money in question was used for important government activities, like paying workers' salaries.
Passing Away
Chief Michael Botmang passed away on 18 January 2014, at the age of 76. He died due to kidney disease. He is remembered for his service to Plateau State as both a deputy governor and a governor.
