Michael Valgren Hundahl (born on February 7, 1992) is a professional road racing cyclist from Denmark. He currently rides for the EF Education–EasyPost team. In 2018, Michael won two big races: the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the Amstel Gold Race.

Michael's Cycling Journey

Michael Valgren started his professional cycling career in 2011 when he was just 19 years old. He joined a Danish team called Glud & Marstrand–LRØ. During this time, he won the U23 Liège–Bastogne–Liège race twice, which is a very important race for young riders. Interestingly, before becoming a full-time pro cyclist, Michael worked in the same fish factory as another famous Danish cyclist, Jonas Vingegaard.

Joining the WorldTour

In 2014, Michael moved up to the WorldTour, which is the highest level of professional cycling. He joined the Tinkoff–Saxo team and quickly made a name for himself. That year, he won the Danish National Road Race Championships and the Danmark Rundt, a stage race in Denmark.

Big Wins and Grand Tours

Michael has competed in the famous Tour de France seven times, from 2015 to 2021. He also rode in the Vuelta a España in 2014 and 2020. The year 2018 was a huge success for him. He won two major "classic" races: the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the Amstel Gold Race. These are tough one-day races known for their challenging routes.

In November 2020, Michael signed a two-year contract with the EF Education–Nippo team. In 2021, he won the Coppa Sabatini and the Giro della Toscana one-day races. He also earned a bronze medal at the UCI World Road Race Championships, which is a fantastic achievement for his country.

Overcoming Challenges

In June 2022, Michael had a serious crash during the Route d'Occitanie race. He suffered several injuries, including a broken pelvis and a dislocated hip. These injuries meant he couldn't race for the rest of that year.

To help him recover and get back to racing, he joined the EF Education–Nippo Development Team team in 2023. He returned to competition on April 30, 2023. Soon after, he announced that he would rejoin his former WorldTour team, EF Education–EasyPost, for the following year, showing his determination to return to the top level of cycling. In 2024, he competed in the Giro d'Italia, one of cycling's three Grand Tours.
