A Historic Building in Casper
The Midwest Oil Company Hotel was built in 1924. It was designed by architects Garbutt, Weidner and Sweeney. The building was created during a time when Casper was growing fast. This was because of a big "oil boom" in the area. An oil boom means a sudden increase in oil production. Many people moved to Casper for work.
From Oil Hotel to Women's Club
The Midwest Oil Company built this hotel for its workers. It gave them a place to stay during the busy oil boom. Later, a company called Standard Oil Company of Indiana bought Midwest Oil. They took over the hotel.
In the 1930s, the oil boom started to slow down. A group of women in Casper bought the hotel for $8,000. They renamed it the Casper Women's Club House. It became a hub for many women's groups.
Home for Women's Organizations
For many years, the Casper Women's Club House was a busy place. It hosted several important women's organizations. These clubs helped women connect and work together. They supported different causes in the community.
