Miguel Ángel Estrella was born in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina. He loved music from a young age. He became a very talented pianist. Some of his teachers were Celia de Bronstein, Erwin Leuchter, and Nadia Boulanger. They helped him become a great musician.
A Fight for Justice
In 1976, Miguel Ángel Estrella had to leave his home country. This was because of a difficult time in Argentina's history. In 1977, he was put in prison in Uruguay. He was treated very badly there. Many people around the world worked to help him. He was finally set free in 1980. After this, he became a strong voice for human rights. He even served as a juror for the Russell Tribunal, which investigates human rights abuses.
Working for Peace and Culture
From 2007 to 2016, Miguel Ángel Estrella was Argentina's ambassador to UNESCO. UNESCO helps countries work together in education, science, and culture. In 2010, he performed on a TV show called Estudio País Bicentenario. This show was broadcast by the state-run channel, Canal Siete.
Honored for His Work
On March 11, 2013, the Argentine Senate honored him. They recognized his amazing career and his strong efforts to defend human rights. The government of France also gave him a special award. He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour. This is one of France's highest honors.
