Mihaela Cardei is a Romanian-American computer scientist. She is well-known for her work on wireless ad hoc networks. These are special computer networks that can connect to each other without needing a central hub or router. Mihaela Cardei is a professor at Florida Atlantic University. She teaches in the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She also helps lead the graduate studies program at the university.

Her Journey in Computer Science

Mihaela Cardei started her studies in computer science in Romania. She earned her first two degrees, a bachelor's and a master's, in 1995 and 1996. She studied at the Politehnica University of Bucharest.

Later, she moved to the United States to continue her education. She earned her Ph.D. (a very advanced degree) in 2003. She completed this at the University of Minnesota.

After finishing her studies, Dr. Cardei joined Florida Atlantic University in 2003. She started as an assistant professor. She worked hard and became a full professor in 2014. In 2018, she took on an additional role as an associate dean.

Awards and Recognition

Florida Atlantic University recognized Dr. Cardei for her excellent research. In 2006–2007, they named her their "Researcher of the Year" at the assistant professor level. This award showed how important her work was even early in her career.
