Mike Smith (born on July 16, 1971, in The Bronx, New York City) is an American musician. He is best known as a founding member and former drummer of the band Suffocation. This band plays a very fast and complex type of heavy metal music.
Mike Smith played drums on Suffocation's early recordings. These include their 1990 demo Reincremated and the 1991 EP Human Waste. He also played on their first album, Effigy of the Forgotten (1991), and the 1993 album Breeding the Spawn. After this, he left the band.
Suffocation later took a break, but they reformed in 2002. Mike Smith returned to play drums again. He performed on their albums Souls to Deny (2004), their self-titled album (2006), and Blood Oath (2009). In 2011, Mike Smith and the band Suffocation were honored. They were inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. Smith left Suffocation for the second time in February 2012.

Mike Smith is also a drum teacher. He works as a studio musician, playing drums for other artists. He played drums on the song "Dawn of a Golden Age" for the album Roadrunner United: The All Star Sessions. He also worked with underground rapper Necro on his album Death Rap. Mike Smith also played with an experimental metal band called Psychometry.
Mike Smith has his own rap project called GRIMM REAL. This project uses themes often found in horror stories. The first full album for GRIMM REAL was released in 1999 and was called Demise of the Clones. In 2014, Smith recorded drums for a German extreme-metal band, Misanthrope Monarch. He has also completed full albums with bands like Voracious Scourge U.S.A and Inverted Matter from Italy. He also recorded two songs with his side project, Synesis Absorption U.S. GRIMM REAL is Mike Smith's main active music project today.
