Milanka Opačić was born on April 17, 1968. She is a Croatian politician who has worked to help people in her country. From 2011 to 2016, she served as a Minister in the Croatian government. Her job was to oversee social policy and youth affairs. This meant she worked on issues like helping families, children, and young people.
Milanka Opačić was also a vice-president of the Social Democratic Party. This is one of the main political parties in Croatia. She has been a member of the Sabor, which is like the country's main law-making body, for many years. She was first elected in 1992 and then re-elected several times, including in 2000, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2016.
Early Life and Education
Milanka Opačić grew up in Zagreb, which is the capital city of Croatia. She went to elementary and high school there. After finishing school, she decided to study political science at the University of Zagreb. She graduated from the university in 1991.
Joining Politics
In 1990, Milanka Opačić became a member of the Social Democratic Party. She was inspired by a politician named Ivica Račan. Just two years later, in 1992, she became a vice-president of the party. She also entered the Sabor that same year. She represented the Serb minority in the parliament.
Her Work in Parliament
Milanka Opačić was re-elected to the Sabor many times. She was a close helper to Zoran Milanović, who later became the Prime Minister. In September 2018, she left the Social Democratic Party. In August 2019, she joined a different political party called Bandić Milan 365 - Labour and Solidarity Party.

Milanka Opačić is a single mother. She adopted her daughter, Lana, in 2003. She has spoken publicly about her personal beliefs. She identifies as an atheist. Even though she started her political career representing the Serb minority, she has stated that she does not label her nationality.
