Mildred Okwo is a talented Nigerian film director and producer. She is known for creating amazing movies that have won many awards. Her movie The Meeting, a romance comedy-drama, won several important awards. These include the Nigeria Entertainment Awards and Africa Movie Academy Awards. She was also nominated for the Best Director award.

About Mildred Okwo

Mildred Okwo was born on April 29, 1966, in Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria. She studied Theater Arts at the University of Benin. She also studied law in California, USA.

After returning to Nigeria in 2006, she wrote, co-produced, and directed her first film, 30 Days. Many famous Nigerian actors starred in 30 Days, including Joke Silva, Genevieve Nnaji, and Rita Dominic. The movie was released in the US in 2006. It received 10 nominations at the 2008 Africa Movie Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Okwo's films have won many respected awards in Africa. These include the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA) and the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA). In 2016, Elle Magazine named Okwo one of "50 Women Shaping Africa". She was also listed among the "100 Most Influential People in Nigeria" by Y'Naija.com.

Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee

Mildred Okwo is part of a special group called the Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee (NOSC). She and eleven other Nigerian film professionals started this committee. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) approved them.

Their job is to choose Nigerian films that can be submitted for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards. This means they help Nigerian movies get a chance to be recognized on a global stage.
