Milira Jones (born September 27, 1969), known as Milira, is an American singer. She sings R&B and soul music. Milira was born in Hollis, New York. She released two albums in the 1990s. Four of her songs became popular on the Billboard R&B charts. Two of these songs reached the top 40.
About Milira
Milira Jones grew up in Hollis, New York. In the late 1980s, she won a talent show. This show was called "Amateur Night" at the famous Apollo Theater. Winning this show helped her get a music deal. She signed with Apollo Records, which worked with Motown Records. Milira was inspired by the jazz singer Sarah Vaughan.
Her Music Career
Milira released her first album on June 15, 1990. It was simply called Milira. This album was very successful. It stayed on the Billboard R&B albums chart for 42 weeks. It reached number 29 on that chart. Two songs from this album became top 40 R&B hits. These were "Go Outside in the Rain" and "Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)". The song "Mercy Mercy Me" was a cover of a Marvin Gaye song. It also featured the musician Noel Pointer.
On June 9, 1992, Milira released her next album. It was titled Back Again!!!. Two songs from this album also appeared on the Billboard R&B singles chart. These songs were "One Man Woman" and "Three's a Crowd". Later, Milira released her third album, Solution. This album had Christian and gospel songs. It also mixed in R&B and soul music. She released this album on her own record label, Arilim Records, on September 12, 2000.
