Mineral City, Missouri facts for kids
Mineral City is a small place in Missouri, a state in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. This community is found in the southern part of St. Francois County.
Mineral City is located along Missouri Route W. It lies southwest of another community called Doe Run. If you look to the west of Mineral City, you'll find Stono Mountain and the very beginning of Doe Run Creek.
Why is it Called Mineral City?
The name "Mineral City" gives us a big clue about how this place started! Long ago, this area was a busy spot for mining. People came here to dig for a metal called lead. Because of all the valuable minerals found and mined here, the settlement became known as Mineral City.
