Mineral Spring, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Mineral Spring is a small place in Barry County, which is in the state of Missouri in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's managed by the county.

The Story of Mineral Spring

This little community has an interesting past! It wasn't always called Mineral Spring. Long ago, it was known by a different name: Panacea.

A post office, which is a place where you send and receive mail, was first opened in Panacea in the year 1880. Later, in 1895, the name of the post office and the community changed to Mineral Spring. This new name came from a special mineral spring that was located nearby. A mineral spring is a natural spring where water flows out of the ground, and it contains special minerals that some people believe are good for health. The post office in Mineral Spring eventually closed its doors in 1940.
