The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia was a special government department in Georgia. It was also known as the Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation of Georgia. This ministry helped people who had to leave their homes because of conflicts or natural disasters. It also managed rules for refugees and people seeking safety in Georgia.

The ministry worked from 1996 until 2018. After 2018, its jobs were taken over by other ministries. These included the Ministry of Regional Development, the Interior Ministry, and the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs. The last person to lead this ministry was Sozar Subari.

Helping Displaced People

This ministry played a big role in helping people who were forced to move. These people are called internally displaced persons, or IDPs. They are still within their own country but cannot go back to their homes. The ministry also helped refugees, who are people who have fled their home country.

Georgia had many IDPs because of past conflicts. About 251,000 people became IDPs due to conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. An additional 26,000 people became IDPs after the Russo-Georgian War in 2008.

Ministry's Work

The ministry worked to find new homes for these displaced people. Sometimes, this meant helping them move to new areas. For example, the ministry once helped 1,500 IDPs move from Tbilisi to rural areas. They offered money or new housing to these families.

The ministry's main goal was to make sure displaced people had a safe place to live. It also helped them get settled and start new lives.
