Discovering Miramont Castle's Past
Building a Unique Home
Father Jean Baptiste Francolon started building Miramont Castle in 1895. He wanted a special home that mixed many different building styles. Imagine a house with parts that look like old Byzantine churches and other parts that look like Tudor homes from England! This mix makes the castle very unique.
The castle was finished in 1896. It is a great example of architecture from the Victorian Era. This was a time when Queen Victoria ruled England (1837-1901).
Becoming a Historic Landmark
In 1976, Miramont Castle was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This happened because of its important history and its amazing mix of architectural styles. Being on this list helps protect the castle for future generations.
A Place of Healing and Mystery
For a while, the Sisters of Mercy also used part of Miramont Castle. They ran a place called Montcalm Sanitarium there. This was a special hospital where people could get better. They shared the castle with Father Francolon.
Some people say that the castle is haunted. Visitors and staff have reported seeing strange things or feeling unexplained presences. This adds to the castle's mysterious charm!
