Mireille Eid (Astore) was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1961. She is a talented artist and writer. When she was young, in 1975, she left Beirut during the Lebanese civil war. She moved to Melbourne, Australia, to live. Mireille studied science at the University of Melbourne. After graduating, she became a full-time artist and writer. Her art often explores deep human feelings. She uses her work to ask what it means to be human. Mireille Eid (Astore) earned a PhD in Contemporary Arts in 2008. She also worked as a researcher at the University of Sydney and the American University of Beirut.

Mireille's Art Exhibitions

Mireille Eid (Astore)'s amazing artworks have been shown in many places. Her art has been seen at the Sydney Film Festival in 2004. It has also been displayed at famous places like the Freud Museum in London and the Tate Modern in London. Her work was even shown at the Centre Pompidou in Paris!

She has also taken part in big art events. These include the 8th Sharjah Biennial in 2008 and the 3rd Guangzhou Triennial. Mireille has shown her photo artworks at the Conny Dietzschold Multiple Box Gallery in Sydney. In 2003, she won an important award in Australia for her photography.

The Tampa Artwork

This film was chosen for the Women's Cinema from Tangiers to Tehran Film Festival. It was also included in a special DVD series called "Resistance(s)".

Mireille's Performances

Mireille Eid (Astore) also gives special talks that are like performances. These are called lecture performances. One of her performances was called An Ungrateful Death: Al-Karam in the Age of Withdrawal. This took place at the Home Works IV event in 2008.

She has given important speeches at big conferences. In 2005, she spoke at the Poetics of Australian Space conference in Sydney. In 2010, she gave a main speech at the International Conference on the Arts in Society. Her performance 4'33 was shown at the Silent Spaces Exhibition in 2010. Her last lecture performance was in 2011. It was called “Posthumous Reckonings: A Cosmology of Infinitudes” and took place at the American University of Beirut.
