Mireille Eid (Astore) facts for kids
Mireille Eid (born in Beirut in 1961), also known as Mireille Astore, is a talented artist and writer. She creates art and stories that explore human feelings and what it means to be human.
Mireille was born in Beirut, Lebanon. When she was 14, in 1975, she moved to Melbourne, Australia, because of the Lebanese Civil War. She studied science at the University of Melbourne. After graduating, she became a full-time artist and writer. Mireille later earned a PhD in Contemporary Arts from the University of Western Sydney in 2008. She also worked as a researcher at Sydney College of the Arts and the American University of Beirut.

Art Exhibitions and Awards
Mireille Eid's artworks have been shown in many famous places around the world. Her art has been seen at the Sydney Film Festival in 2004 and at the Tate Modern in London. It was also displayed at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. She has shown her photo artworks at the Conny Dietzschold Multiple Box Gallery in Sydney. In 2003, she won the National Photographic Purchase Award in Australia.
The Tampa Artwork
One of Mireille's well-known artworks is called Tampa. This piece was inspired by the MS Tampa, a Norwegian ship. The artwork combined photography with sculptures and live performances. It explored how images and art can tell a story.

Some places it was screened include the né à Beyrouth Film Festival in Beirut and the Toronto Arab Film Festival.
3494 Houses + 1 Fence
Mireille's film 3494 Houses + 1 Fence shows images of houses in Australia next to scenes of a war-damaged fence in Lebanon. This film creates a strong picture of the differences between her memories and her life now. It was chosen to be part of the Women's Cinema from Tangiers to Tehran Film Festival.

- In 2008, she performed An Ungrateful Death: Al-Karam in the Age of Withdrawal at Home Works IV.
- She gave a main speech called "Speaking on Behalf of the Other" in 2005. This was at the Poetics of Australian Space conference in Sydney.
- In 2010, she gave another main speech titled "On Autobiography, Economies of Surplus and Surpassing Disasters." This was at the International Conference on the Arts in Society.
