Mirror blocks facts for kids
The Mirror Cube, also called the Mirror Blocks or Bump Cube, is a fun twisty puzzle. It looks a bit like a Rubik's Cube, but it's different! It was invented in 2006.
Inside, it works almost exactly like a regular 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube. The main difference is that all the pieces are the same color, usually shiny gold or silver. Instead of colors, you solve it by matching the shapes of the pieces. Each piece is a different size and shape, like a rectangular block.
Just like puzzles such as the Ghost Cube, the Mirror Cube has a 3x3x3 structure. This means you can solve it using the same methods you would use for a standard Rubik's Cube. People often try to solve it very quickly. For example, Sebastian Häfner once solved it in just 9.32 seconds! However, these records are not official because the Mirror Cube is not a puzzle recognized by the WCA.
What is the Mirror Cube?
The Mirror Cube is a special kind of puzzle. It changes shape when you twist it. Unlike a regular Rubik's Cube, which has different colors on each side, the Mirror Cube has pieces that are all the same color. You solve it by putting the different-sized pieces back into a perfect cube shape. It's a great way to challenge your brain!
How the Mirror Cube Started
The Mirror Cube was first created by Hidetoshi Takeji in 2006. He first called it the "Bump Cube." This was because when you scrambled it, the puzzle became uneven and bumpy.
Hidetoshi showed his new puzzle at a competition in Osaka. A speedcuber, someone who solves puzzles very fast, was really interested in it. Hidetoshi let the speedcuber borrow his puzzle. The speedcuber then showed it to a group working on new ideas.
Later, in the fall of 2008, the puzzle was made for everyone to buy. It was mass-produced in Boston by a company called Rubik's and made by MegaHouse. When it was released, it was officially named the Mirror Blocks, or Mirror Cube.
