Mirsada Bajraktarević (born 23 April 1951 – died 10 October 1976), known as Mirjana Bajraktarević, was a talented singer and songwriter from Bosnia and Herzegovina. She was famous for singing sevdalinka, a traditional Bosnian folk music style. Mirjana was the sister of two other singers, Silvana Armenulić and Dina Bajraktarević. Sadly, Mirjana and Silvana both passed away in a car accident.
Mirjana's music career was at its best in 1974. Her popular songs included "Doletjeće bijeli golub" and "Ne zovi me, ja ti neću doći". After she passed away, a song called "Rukama sam mahala za tobom" became a hit in 1977.

Early Life and Family Background
Mirsada Bajraktarević was born in the city of Doboj in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She was the seventh of thirteen children in her family. Her father, Mehmed Bajraktarević, owned a cake shop. Her mother's name was Hajrija.
The family's last name, Bajraktarević, comes from the Ottoman Empire. The word bajrak means flag in Turkish. Mirsada's older sister, Zilha (who later became known as Silvana), started singing when she was very young. However, their father did not support her singing career at first.
Mirsada had a brother named Hajrudin who died when he was young. After this sad event, her father faced difficulties with his business. The large family included sisters Mirsada, Hajrudina (Dina), Zilha (Silvana), Abida, and Ševka. Her brothers were Hajrudin, Muhamed, Izudin, Abudin, and Ismet. Her nephew, Sabahudin Bilalović, became a professional basketball player. He passed away at age 43 from a heart attack.
Mirjana's Music Career
In 1955, Mirsada's sister Silvana moved to Sarajevo to pursue her singing dreams. She sang in local cafes to earn money. Eventually, Silvana became a professional singer. This helped Mirsada get her own record deal.
Mirjana recorded her first album when she was eighteen years old in 1969. It was released on 18 February 1970. After five years of releasing shorter music collections called extended plays and singles, Mirjana released her first full album in 1975. It was titled Imala sam drugaricu (meaning I Had a Friend).
This album featured twelve songs. Mirjana herself wrote two of these songs. Four songs were written by Radoslav Graić, and the title song became very popular. She also sang four traditional Bosnian folk songs. These included "Kraj potoka bistre vode", "Ah, moj Aljo, crne oči", "Moj zumbule", and "Mujo kuje konja".
Mirjana's Personal Life
Mirjana was married for about a year to a singer named Zoran Milivojević. He passed away in 2011.
Tragic Death and Aftermath
On 10 October 1976, Mirsada tragically died in a car crash. The accident happened near the Serbian village of Kolari. Her sister Silvana Armenulić and a violinist named Miodrag "Rade" Jašarević also died in the crash. They were traveling in a car from Aleksandrovac to Belgrade after a concert.
Originally, Silvana was driving, but at some point, 60-year-old Rade Jašarević took the wheel. The car was reportedly going very fast when it crashed into a truck. Mirsada was asleep in the back seat, and Silvana was asleep in the passenger seat.
Another singer, Lepa Lukić, was supposed to be at the concert that day. However, she overslept and missed it. She later said she believes she would have died in the crash too if she had gone with them. Lepa Lukić has not driven a car since the accident, out of fear. Between 30,000 and 50,000 people attended the funeral for Mirjana and Silvana. They were buried side by side in the Novo groblje cemetery.
The exact reason for the accident is not fully known. However, it is thought that there might have been a problem with the car's brakes. The car they were driving, a Ford Granada, had been recalled because of possible issues with its steering. It is not known if Mirjana and Silvana knew about this recall.
At the time of her death, Mirsada was living with her sister Dina. She was also engaged to be married to a boxer named Dragomir Vujković. They had planned to marry in November 1976 after she returned from a tour.
Mirjana's mother, Hajrija, lived to be 92 years old and passed away in 2008. Five years later, Mirsada's oldest sister Ševka died in 2013. This left Dina as the only living sister of the Bajraktarević family.
