The Miss Worcester Diner is a super cool historic diner located in Worcester, Massachusetts. It's also known as Worcester Lunch Car #812. This diner was built way back in 1948 by the famous Worcester Lunch Car Company. What makes it extra special is that it was used like a "showroom" for new diner ideas!

Discovering the Miss Worcester Diner
This historic diner is a real gem from the past. It sits at 302 Southbridge Street in Worcester. The company that built it, the Worcester Lunch Car Company, had its factory right across the street. Even though the diner has always been owned by different people, it served a special purpose. It was a place where the company could show off new designs and test out fresh ideas for their diners.
A Look at the Diner's Past
Diners have been on this spot since the late 1930s. But they didn't have the "Miss Worcester" name back then. In 1948, the Worcester Lunch Car Company built this specific diner, number 812. They delivered it on June 14 to Dino Sotiropoulos.
He first called his business the "Star Diner" in 1949. It wasn't until 1950 that it became known as the "Miss Worcester." Dino and his family ran the diner until 1963. Since then, many different owners have kept this classic diner running.
The Diner's Design and Location
The Miss Worcester Diner sits on a small piece of land. Most of the land around it has an old brick building from the 1870s. This building used to be a textile mill. Right across Quinsigamond Avenue, you can see the factory where this very diner was built.
The diner itself is seven sections wide and three sections deep. It has a concrete block kitchen attached to it, which was built around 1948 too. The diner has a classic barrel-shaped roof. Canopies stretch over the entrances, which are on the shorter sides of the building. The outside walls are covered in bright yellow enamel with light blue trim.
Inside the Miss Worcester Diner
Step inside the diner, and you'll see a long marble counter. It runs almost the entire length of the diner. Customers can sit on fourteen metal stools that have cool red details. There are also five booths along the front wall. These booths have been replaced with plywood laminate.
The walls inside the diner are covered with lots of stickers! You can find stickers from trade unions, local sports teams, and colleges. There are even stickers showing different activities that customers have done over the years. The colors inside are darker than the outside. You'll see wood tones and dark red, with touches of cream and steel.
A Historic Landmark
Because of its unique history and classic design, the Miss Worcester Diner is very important. It was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. This means it's recognized as a special place that's worth preserving for the future.
