Mission Gallery facts for kids
Mission Gallery is a special art gallery in Swansea, Wales. It shows off modern art, paintings, sculptures, photos, and crafts. It's a place where you can see amazing new ideas from artists.
This gallery wasn't always an art space. It used to be a church called St Nicholas Church, built in 1886. It was a church for sailors! A famous architect named Benjamin Bucknall designed it.
How Mission Gallery Started
The building became an art gallery in 1977. It was first called the Swansea Arts Workshop Gallery. A group of artists and volunteers worked together to run it. They were part of a bigger group called the Association of Artists and Designers in Wales.
In 1992, the Association of Artists and Designers in Wales changed. Mission Gallery and Swansea Studios became separate groups. Since then, Mission Gallery has received money from the Arts Council of Wales. This money helps the gallery keep going and show great art. In 2003, the gallery was able to hire its first full-time staff member, thanks to this support.
What You Can Find Inside
