Another mission that bore the name Nuestra Señora Reina de los Ángeles is the former Nuestra Señora Reina de los Ángeles Asistencia in Los Angeles, California.
The Mission Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles de Porciúncula was a special church built for the people of the Pecos Pueblo. Its name means "Mission of Our Lady of the Angels of Porciúncula." This mission was located near what is now Pecos, New Mexico. It was first built around the year 1619.

Building the First Pecos Mission
The very first church at Pecos Pueblo was likely built by a Franciscan friar. His name was Pedro Zambrano Ortiz. This happened around 1619. The church was built a little distance away from the main village. It was on a narrow ridge, about 440 yards northeast of the pueblo's main area. The people of the pueblo preferred the church to be built further from their homes.
A New Church and the Pueblo Revolt
In 1625, a stronger church was built for the mission. This new church was also located outside the walls of the Pecos village. However, this church building was destroyed in 1680. This happened during an important event called the Pueblo Revolt. In this revolt, the Spanish people were forced to leave New Mexico.
Rebuilding and Today
The Spanish returned to New Mexico in 1693. After that, a smaller church was built in 1717. The walls of this later church are still standing today. They are built on top of the stone foundation of the older, destroyed church.
You can find the ruins of this mission about 20 miles east of Santa Fe, New Mexico. They are located off I-25 inside the Pecos National Historic Park.
