Mitsunori Yoshida (吉田 光範, Yoshida Mitsunori, born March 8, 1962) is a former Japanese football player. He was a midfielder known for his skills on the field. Yoshida played for the Japan national team and was part of the team that won the AFC Asian Cup in 1992.

Playing Career: A Loyal Club Man

Mitsunori Yoshida was born in Kariya, Japan, on March 8, 1962. After finishing high school, he joined a football club called Yamaha Motors in 1980. This club later became known as Júbilo Iwata.

Club Successes

Yoshida stayed with the same club his entire playing career. This is quite rare in professional sports! With Yamaha Motors, he helped them win the Emperor's Cup in 1982. They also won the Japan Soccer League in the 1987-88 season. He played in 275 league matches and scored 35 goals for his club before retiring in 1995.

National Team Journey

Mitsunori Yoshida also played for the Japan national team. He represented his country 35 times and scored 2 goals.

International Debut and Goals

His first game for Japan was a friendly match against China on June 2, 1988. This game took place in Nagoya. He scored his first international goal against China as well, on May 13, 1989, in Okayama.

Winning the Asian Cup

One of his biggest achievements was being part of the Japan team that won the AFC Asian Cup in 1992. This was a huge victory for Japanese football. Yoshida played in two matches during that important tournament.

Life After Playing: Coaching Career

After he stopped playing football professionally, Mitsunori Yoshida became a coach. He started coaching at his former club, Júbilo Iwata, in 2001. He mostly worked as a coach for the main team and also managed the youth teams until 2009.
