Moi-Yo Miller was the stage name for Mona Loretta Miller. She was an Australian entertainer born on April 24, 1914, and passed away on September 18, 2018. Moi-Yo traveled the world as a magician's assistant and illusionist. She worked with the famous stage magician Dante during the 1930s and 1940s.
Early Life and Magic Career
Moi-Yo Miller was born in Geelong, Australia. She met the magician Dante when she was a teenager. At the time, she was performing in a musical show in Melbourne. Dante was looking for an Australian assistant for his magic act.
Moi-Yo quickly became Dante's main assistant. She worked with him for his entire performing career. She was a very important part of his magic show, which was called Sim Sala Bim.
A Famous Assistant
Moi-Yo Miller was known for her amazing skills as a magic assistant. She once said that she was "sawed in half" about 11,800 times during her career! This was a very popular magic trick.
Many professional magicians thought Moi-Yo was one of the best magic assistants ever. She even appeared in a documentary movie from 2008 called Women in Boxes. This film showed how important assistants are in magic shows.
In 1993, Moi-Yo received the Dragon Award for her contributions to magic. She lived a long life and celebrated her 100th birthday in 2014. A public mural of Moi-Yo Miller's face was painted in Geelong in 2016, honoring her legacy.
