Mokihana's Exciting Story

The story is about a girl named Mokihana. She lives in beautiful Hawaii. Mokihana has many friends there. Their families came to Hawaii from different countries. They all speak English together.

Mokihana and her friends meet almost every day. They have lots of fun adventures. In the book, they plan a secret birthday party. It's for their friend Anela, who is turning ten.

Mokihana and her friends get ready for the party. They make pretty flower wreaths. Mokihana also draws a picture of Anela's favorite dog, Iki. Anela is very surprised! She thought everyone had forgotten her birthday.

The friends celebrate Anela's birthday together. They eat yummy mangos, pineapple, and bananas. They also enjoy papayas, ice cream, and cakes. They drink refreshing orange juice. Anela gets a special gift too. She receives cute chicks in a basket! She is so happy about her present.

About the Book and Photos

The book Mokihana Lives in Hawaii is part of a series. It's called the Children's Everywhere series. All the books in this series feature children from different parts of the world.

This book was created right in Hawaii. Anna Riwkin-Brick, the photographer, and her sister Eugénie Söderberg, the writer, lived there for several months. Anna took all the pictures. Eugénie wrote the story that goes with them. Did you know that for just one picture in the book, Anna took over a hundred photos? That's a lot of work!

A Special Film About the Book

The Children's Everywhere series was very popular. Especially in Israel, many people loved these books. This was partly because of the great translations by the poet Leah Goldberg.

In 2017, an Israeli director named Dvorit Shargal made a film. It's a 50-minute documentary. The film is called Where is Lilibet the Circus child and what happened in Honolulu?. In this movie, the director tries to find out what happened to Mokihana. She wants to know what Mokihana's life was like after the book ended.
