The Monasterio de Santa María de Valdediós is an old Cistercian monastery in Spain. It was built in the 1200s. You can find it near a town called Villaviciosa in the Principality of Asturias. This area is on the coast of Biscay Bay in northern Spain.
The monastery is a very important historical place. It has the highest level of protection for old buildings in Spanish law. Inside the monastery grounds, you will find the Iglesia de Santa María (Valdediós). Right next to it is the Church of San Salvador de Valdediós.

History of Valdediós Monastery
This monastery was officially started on November 27, 1200. The buildings you see today are made of stone. They were built in a style called Spanish Gothic. This style was popular in Spain during the Middle Ages.
In 1522, the monastery faced a big challenge. It was hit by a large flood from the nearby Valdediós river. Despite this, the monastery has stood for centuries.
