Moncagua is a special kind of town called a municipality in El Salvador. It is located in the San Miguel department. Think of a department like a state or province.
Moncagua is famous for its hot springs. People often call it "tierra caliente," which means "hot land." The name Moncagua comes from the ancient Nauathl language. This was the language of the Lenca people, who lived there long ago. In Nauathl, Moncagua means "land of rabbits, rocks, and water."
Sports in Moncagua
Moncagua has its own local football (soccer) team. They are called Atlético Chaparrastique. This team has played in the Salvadoran Second Division for several seasons. This is like a league just below the top professional league. In 2003, they almost made it to the very top league!
