Montgomery's Inn facts for kids
Montgomery's Inn is a special museum located in Etobicoke, Toronto, Ontario. It was built way back in 1830. This old building was designed in a style called Georgian. It served as an inn, which is like a hotel for travelers. The inn was named after its owner, Thomas Montgomery (1790-1877).
The inn stopped being a hotel in 1856. After that, it became a private farmhouse. The Montgomery family rented it out to farmers until 1946. Over the years, different groups owned the inn. These included a church, a developer, and local historical societies. Finally, the City of Toronto took over. At one point, the inn was almost torn down! Luckily, it was saved. Today, it is a treasured piece of history from the early days of Upper Canada. Most items inside the museum are from that time period. A few things even belonged to the Montgomery family themselves.
