History of the Monument
This impressive statue was created by two Italian artists, David Calandra and Eduardo Rubino. They finished their work in 1927.
The statue shows Bartolomé Mitre riding a horse. It is made of bronze and sits on a shiny red granite base. Around the base, there are beautiful sculptures made from white Carrara marble. These sculptures represent different ideas or stories. The monument was officially opened on July 8, 1927. During the opening ceremony, General Agustín P. Justo, who was the Minister of War at the time, gave a speech.
Where to Find the Monument
The monument is located in Plaza Mitre. This plaza is situated between the British Embassy and the National Library of Argentina.
If you cross Del Libertador Avenue from the monument, you will find Plaza Ruben Dario. Close by, you can also visit the National Museum of Fine Arts.
