The Carlos María de Alvear Equestrian Monument is a famous statue in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It stands in a beautiful area called Recoleta. This monument honors Carlos María de Alvear (1788-1852), an important general and leader in Argentine history.

A famous French artist named Antoine Bourdelle created this amazing sculpture. He thought it was one of his best works.

The idea for the monument started in 1912. Bourdelle was chosen to create it in 1913. It took him almost ten years to finish the statue! Once it was ready, the monument traveled all the way from France to Buenos Aires in 1925. It has stood in its current spot since October 12, 1926. The statue and its base are made of polished pink granite and have extra bronze decorations by the artist.

Where to Find It

The monument is located in a park called Plaza Julio de Caro. It's right next to the Palais de Glace, a well-known building. You can find it across Avenida Alvear, very close to Plaza Intendente Alvear. What's cool is that it's directly across from another monument that honors Carlos María de Alvear's son, Torcuato de Alvear. This area is right in the heart of Recoleta, a popular neighborhood.
