Mooball, New South Wales facts for kids
Mooball (pronounced Moo - Bul) is a small town or area in the Tweed Shire in New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the traditional lands of the Bundjalung people, who are the original custodians of this area. The town's name was first spelled Moball.
The Northern Rivers Rail Trail, a path built on old railway lines, goes right through Mooball. The town is also very close to the Mooball National Park, a protected area of nature.
Mooball's History
The name Mooball comes from the 'mobool' word in the Bandjalung-Yugambeh language. This word refers to the cane of a plant called a lawyer vine.
In March 2012, Mooball became known as a place that was free of plastic bags. This meant that shops in the town did not give out single-use plastic bags.
Mooball is a popular place for visitors because of its fun cow-themed decorations. You can see black and white cow prints painted on electricity poles all over the town. There is also the Moo Moo Roadhouse, which has cow-style markings and artwork.
The Big Motorcycle
Mooball is home to a very large motorbike, known as the Big Motorcycle. It is one of Australia's big things, which are giant roadside attractions. This huge motorbike is located across the road from the Moo Moo Roadhouse on Tweed Valley Way.
The Big Motorcycle is a copy of the Yamaha YZR500 motorbike. This was the bike ridden by the famous racer Wayne Rainey in 1993. This giant replica is three times bigger than a normal motorbike. It stands an impressive three metres tall!
