Moquin's Bakery is a special old building in Burlington, Vermont. People also called it the Biscuit Factory or the National Biscuit Company. It used to be a busy place where cookies and crackers were made!

This building was first built in 1915 by a local bakery. Later, a much bigger company called Nabisco (which used to be known as the National Biscuit Company) bought it and made it larger. Nabisco made biscuits here until 1969.

Today, the building is no longer a factory. It has been changed into homes where people live. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 because it's an important part of the area's business history.

What is Moquin's Bakery Like?

The old Moquin's Bakery building is in a neighborhood in Burlington. It's a big, two-story building made of brick. It also has smaller, one-story parts on its sides.

The front of the building has seven sections. The middle part has three sections with brick columns. The outer parts have two windows together, shaped with a rounded top. Even though it looks balanced, the building was built in different stages over time. It started as a smaller, two-section building in the middle.

A Sweet History: From Local Bakery to Big Business

The very first part of the building was built in 1915 by two brothers, John and Julius Moquin. By the 1920s, their bakery was very successful. They delivered bread and other baked goods all over Vermont!

The Moquin brothers left the business in the 1930s. Eventually, their bakery joined with the National Biscuit Company, which we now know as Nabisco. Around 1940, the factory was made much bigger. By 1945, it was almost the size you see today.

The factory closed its doors in 1969. For a while, it was used as a warehouse to store things. Then, in 1982, it was briefly used as a bakery again. After that, the building was changed into apartments and homes. It's a great example of how old buildings can be given a new life!
