Morgan Randyll (born 1649, died 1738 or later) was an English lawyer and politician. He lived at Chilworth Manor in Surrey. He was a member of the English and British Parliament for many years, from 1679 to 1722.

Early Life and Education

Morgan Randyll was the oldest son of Vincent Randyll and Dorothy Duncombe. His family lived at Chilworth Manor.

He went to Wadham College, Oxford, in 1666. He earned his first degree in 1670. In the same year, he joined the Middle Temple, which is a place where lawyers are trained.

Becoming a Lawyer

In 1673, Morgan Randyll inherited Chilworth Manor from his father. This meant he became the owner of the family home. By 1677, he officially became a lawyer, which is called being "called to the bar."

In 1678, he married Anne Gould. She was the daughter of Sir Thomas Gould, a successful merchant from London.

Morgan Randyll's Political Career

Morgan Randyll was a member of the Tory party. This was one of the main political groups in England at the time. He spent many years serving in Parliament.

Serving in Parliament

Randyll was first chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for Guildford in 1679. An MP is someone elected to represent their local area in the House of Commons, where laws are made. He was elected again in 1681.

He also held other important local jobs. From 1686 to 1687, he was the High Sheriff of Surrey. This was a very important official role in the county. He also served as a Deputy-lieutenant for Surrey at different times.

Many Elections for Guildford

Morgan Randyll was elected as an MP for Guildford many more times. He won elections in 1690, 1695, 1698, and twice in 1701. He was also elected in 1702, 1708, 1711, and 1713.

In 1715, he was elected again without anyone running against him. However, all the money he spent on his election campaigns caused him financial problems.

Later Life and Challenges

Because of the high costs of his political life, Morgan Randyll had to sell his family home, Chilworth Manor, in 1720.

He tried to be elected for Guildford one last time in 1722. But this time, he lost the election. After this, he faced serious financial difficulties.

Morgan Randyll passed away sometime after 1735. He had two daughters. One of them married Gilbert Vane, who was a Baron.
