Morrisania Hospital was a large hospital located in The Bronx, a part of New York City. It was a place where people went to get medical care and heal. The hospital was made up of four buildings, with the main one being 11 stories tall. It was built in 1926 and served the community for many years.
A Look Back: Morrisania Hospital's Story
Morrisania Hospital officially opened its doors in 1929. It was a big hospital, designed to have 400 beds for patients. This meant it could help many people at once. The hospital also had a separate building just for laundry, which shows how large and busy it was.
Over the years, the hospital continued to care for people. By the time it closed in 1976, it had 311 beds. After closing, the hospital buildings sat empty for more than 20 years. Eventually, the main hospital building was changed into an apartment building where people now live.
