Morrisburg was once a small community in Guthrie County, Iowa, United States. Today, it is known as a ghost town. A ghost town is a place where most or all people have left, leaving behind empty buildings or just traces of what used to be there. Morrisburg is one of these places, a quiet reminder of the past.
The Story of Morrisburg
Morrisburg began in 1855. Two men, James Moore and Jonathan J. Morris, planned out the town. They decided where streets and buildings would go.
A Name Change
The town was first called Fairview. But in 1856, people found out there was already another town named Fairview in Iowa. To avoid confusion, the name was changed to Morrisburg. This new name likely honored Jonathan J. Morris, one of the founders.
