The Moses Goldsmith Building is a historic house in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. It was built in 1900. The first owner was Moses Goldsmith. He was the head of a company that sold "notions." These are small items used for sewing, like buttons and thread.

Moses Goldsmith did not live in the house himself. He built it as an investment. This means he planned to make money from it. He did this by renting it out to other people.

About the Goldsmith Building

What the Building Looks Like

The Goldsmith Building is made of brick. It also has parts made of sandstone and limestone. Experts say it is a great example of Renaissance Revival architecture. This style copies old European buildings.

Some special parts of its design include "string courses" and "molding courses." These are decorative bands that go around the building. It also has a large loggia. A loggia is like a covered porch or balcony, often open on one side.

A Look at Its History

The Goldsmith Building was built in the Clifton neighborhood. At that time, Clifton was growing very fast. Many wealthy people in Cincinnati built big, fancy homes there. This made Clifton a very special part of the city.

The house did not stay with the Goldsmith family for long. Moses Goldsmith passed away a few years after it was built. His family sold the property in 1912. After that, the house changed from being for one family to being for several families.

In 1982, the Goldsmith Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a list of important historical places in the United States. It was added because of its special architecture. The loggia was a key reason, as it is very rare in Cincinnati.
