Life and Political Journey
Early Life and Education
Moshe Sharoni was born in 1929 in a town called Buhuși in Romania. In 1948, he moved to Israel. This move is called aliyah.
Later, in 1987, he earned a degree. He studied municipal management at the University of Haifa. This means he learned how to manage cities and towns.
Starting a Political Party
Before the 1996 elections in Israel, Moshe Sharoni helped create a new political party. He worked with Nava Arad to start the Pensioner's Party. This party later became known as Gil.
The Gil party focused on helping older people. They wanted to make sure seniors had a voice in the government.
Serving in the Knesset
In the 1999 elections, Moshe Sharoni was an important candidate for the Gil party. However, the party did not win enough votes to get a seat in the Knesset that year.
But in 2006, things changed. Moshe Sharoni was elected to the Knesset as a member of the Gil party. The Knesset is where laws are made in Israel.
Forming a New Group
In 2008, Moshe Sharoni decided to form a new group. This group was called Justice for the Elderly. It was a separate part of the Gil party. He started this new group on June 2, 2008.
However, this new group did not stay separate for long. On October 27, 2008, Justice for the Elderly joined back with the Gil party.
End of His Time in the Knesset
In the 2009 elections, the Gil party did not get enough votes. They failed to cross the "electoral threshold." This means they didn't get the minimum percentage of votes needed to win seats. Because of this, Moshe Sharoni lost his seat in the Knesset.
Moshe Sharoni passed away on September 20, 2020.
