Mounce is a small, unincorporated community located in Dent County, within the U.S. state of Missouri. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's usually governed by the county.
The Story of Mounce
The community of Mounce got its start a long time ago. In 1892, a special building called a post office was opened there. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It stayed open for many years, until 1913.
How Mounce Got Its Name
The name "Mounce" was given to the community to honor an important person who lived there early on. His name was Prince E. Mounce. Naming a place after a notable citizen was a common way to recognize people who helped build or settle an area.
