Mount Midnight is a tall mountain peak located in the icy land of Antarctica. It stands nearly 2,000 meters (about 6,560 feet) high. This impressive peak is found on the northern side of the Tucker Glacier, which is a huge river of ice. It's also about 3.5 nautical miles (6.5 kilometers) west of a place called Shadow Bluff. Mount Midnight is part of a larger group of mountains known as the Admiralty Mountains.

Exploring Mount Midnight

Mount Midnight was first explored and climbed by a special team of scientists. This team was part of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition. A geological survey team studies the Earth's rocks and landforms. They climbed Mount Midnight in January 1958.

How Mount Midnight Got Its Name

The New Zealand team gave Mount Midnight its name. They chose this name because of its close location to two other places: Mount Shadow and Shadow Bluff. Mount Shadow is just to the east of Mount Midnight. The names "Midnight" and "Shadow" were chosen to link these nearby features together.
