How the Camp Changed Hands

After Muhammad Ali stopped boxing, he sold his training camp. In 1997, George Dillman bought the camp.

Muhammad Ali passed away on June 3, 2016. After his passing, George Dillman opened the camp to visitors. People could see the gym, kitchen, and cabins. In July 2016, the camp was sold again. Mike Madden, who is the son of John Madden, bought it.

What Ali Built

Muhammad Ali bought the land in 1972. He started building the camp by cutting down trees. He used the logs to build cabins. The camp had several important buildings.

There was a cabin for visitors and a gym for training. It also had a dining hall and a mosque for prayer. Ali's family house was also on the property. The compound even had a barn with five stalls for his horses and a donkey.

Special Rocks and Visitors

Around the camp, there were large rocks. On these rocks, Ali had painted the names of famous boxing legends. He also included names of his friends and opponents. Some names were Sonny Liston, Joe Louis, and Joe Frazier. Ali's trainer, Angelo Dundee, also had his name painted there.

Even famous people like Elvis Presley visited the training camp. It was a very special place for Ali and his friends.
