Munchie is a funny movie from 1992. It was directed by Jim Wynorski. This film is a sequel to an older movie called Munchies from 1987.
The movie stars Andrew Stevens, Loni Anderson, and Jennifer Love Hewitt. This was actually Jennifer Love Hewitt's very first movie role! Munchie was first shown in Tennessee on May 15, 1992.
Story of Munchie
The movie is about a young boy named Gage Dobson. Gage has a lot of problems. At school, some kids and even teachers pick on him. His mom, Cathy, is dating a man named Dr. Elliot Carlisle. Gage really doesn't like Dr. Carlisle. Also, the girl Gage likes, Andrea, doesn't seem to notice him.
Gage's only friend is Professor Cruikshank. Most people think Professor Cruikshank is a bit strange. One day, Gage explores an old mine. There, he finds a strange creature. The creature calls itself Munchie. Gage gets scared and runs home. But Munchie follows him!
Munchie tells Gage that he has magic powers. He promises to help Gage with all his problems. But Munchie's help often causes more trouble for Gage.
Munchie's Magical Mischief
Munchie helps Gage get back at the school bullies. One bully is embarrassed during a play. Another gets into trouble in the bathroom. Munchie also causes problems for the school principal. The principal even threatens to kick Gage out of school!
Gage gets tired of Munchie's tricks. He takes Munchie to Professor Cruikshank. The professor explains that Munchie is a very old creature. Munchie has been around since ancient times! Gage leaves Munchie with the professor.
But Munchie doesn't stay away for long. He comes back to Gage's house. While Gage's mom and Dr. Carlisle are on a date, Munchie throws a huge party! The party is a big success. Gage's principal, who comes to the party, says Gage won't be expelled. Andrea and Gage finally talk and become friends.
The Chase for Munchie
Meanwhile, Cathy and Dr. Carlisle are on their date. Dr. Carlisle says some mean things that upset Cathy. She asks him to take her home early. They arrive to find the party in full swing. Cathy is very angry with Gage.
Then, Dr. Carlisle finds Munchie sleeping. He decides to kidnap Munchie! He wants to take Munchie to his office for experiments. Gage, Andrea, and Professor Cruikshank work together. They try to get Munchie back.
A big chase begins! It ends with Dr. Carlisle crashing his car into a donut shop. Police officers nearby arrest him.
In the end, Munchie leaves to go on an adventure with Professor Cruikshank. He promises Gage that they will see each other again someday.
