The Adjutant General's Corps Museum, often called the AGC Museum, is a cool place to visit in Winchester. It's located at Peninsula Barracks. This museum shows the history of the Adjutant General's Corps and the older groups that came before it. You can see this history through old objects, writings, photos, and even small 3D scenes called dioramas.

A Look Back in Time

The AGC Museum first opened its doors in November 2003. Its main goal was to bring together important collections from different parts of the British Army.

What Collections Came Together?

  • The Royal Army Pay Corps collection, which used to be at Worthy Down Camp. This group handled the army's money.
  • The Royal Army Educational Corps collection, previously at Eltham Palace. They were in charge of educating soldiers.
  • Parts of the Women's Royal Army Corps collection, which had been at Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Guildford. This group was for women serving in the army.
  • Some items from the Royal Military Police collection. Most of their history is still at The RMP Museum. This group keeps order and enforces rules in the army.

The museum also has items from other groups that helped form the AGC. These include the Army Legal Corps (Army Legal Services Branch), which provides legal advice, and the Military Provost Staff Corps, who work in military prisons.

Journey Through Time

The museum's displays are set up in time order. They start from the 1700s and go all the way to 1992, when the AGC was officially formed. You can also see how the corps has continued to develop up to today.
