My Family's Got Guts was an exciting family game show that aired on Nickelodeon. It was a new version of an older show called Guts. The show first started on September 15, 2008.
The show was filmed at Universal Studios Florida in special sound stages. These stages held the "Extreme Arena" and the famous "Aggro Crag". The hosts of the show were Ben Lyons and Asha Kuerten. My Family's Got Guts was the only Nickelodeon show made at Universal Studios Florida after Nickelodeon Studios closed in 2005. The second season of the show was never shown in North America.

How the Game Works
This show was different from the first Guts because it was a big tournament. Twelve family teams started, and they slowly got narrowed down. First, six teams were chosen in preliminary episodes. Then, three teams moved on from the semifinal episodes. Finally, the best teams competed in a special, longer episode called the "Aggro Bowl".
In the first rounds, teams played two challenges and then faced the Aggro Crag. Points were important, but they didn't decide the winner directly. Instead, for every point a team was ahead, they got a small head start on the Aggro Crag. For example, 10 points meant a 1-second head start. In the preliminary rounds, the most head start a team could get was 7 seconds.
The semifinal rounds had three harder challenges before the Aggro Crag. The Aggro Crag itself was also bigger and tougher in these rounds. Teams could earn up to a 10-second head start.
Fun Challenges!
Teams competed in many different physical challenges to earn points. Here are some of the exciting events they played:
Preliminary Challenges
- Free Run City - Two teammates had to race through a course filled with obstacles. They worked together in a relay to reach the finish line faster than the other team. The goal was to finish as quickly as possible within two minutes. Every second left on the clock earned them a point.
- Sky Slam - Two players from different teams tried to dunk basketballs. They were connected to stretchy elastic wires, which made it tricky! A teammate could help block the opponent. Each successful dunk was worth 10 points. The team with the most dunks after 90 seconds won.
- Flying Football - Similar to Sky Slam, but this time players played a football-style game. They had to catch footballs. Each catch was worth 10 points. The team with the most catches after 90 seconds won.
- Supertoe PK - Competitors kicked soccer balls into goals to score points. Each goal was worth 10 points. The team with the most points at the end of 90 seconds won this challenge.
- Vert Ball - This event was like a game of dodgeball. Teams tried to hit the other team's members with balls. To win, they had to avoid getting hit for 90 seconds. Each hit was worth 10 points.
Semifinal Challenges
- Air Slalom - One player from each team was strapped onto a snowboard. Two other players used ropes to help steer the snowboarder around flags. Each flag they successfully went around earned them 10 points.
- Formula Guts - This was a two-person relay race on a track using special "pod-bikes." Each driver rode one lap and then switched with their teammate during a pit stop. The winning team received 100 points, while the second-place team got 75 points.
- Volley Brawl - Two volleyball courts were set up. One player served a volleyball from the ground, while another teammate jumped off a high bridge to hit it over the net. This was a 90-second challenge.
Aggro Bowl Challenges
- Guts Grand Prix - A two-player race where one player rode a "High-Stepper" (a bike without a seat) and the other rode a "Low Rider." The first teammate had to finish their part before the second could start. First place earned 100 points, second place 75 points, and third place 50 points. This race took place outside, on a street area at Universal Studios Florida.
- Mile High Triple Jump - Only one person from each team competed. They had to jump over a high bar and two hurdles with the help of an elastic cord. Then, they had to jump from a platform and try to stick a marker onto a tall wall. Each bar, hurdle, and foot climbed on the wall was worth 10 points.
- Free Run City: Wild Side - This was a tougher version of the "Free Run City" challenge from the preliminary rounds. It had new obstacles like pipes, poles, ladders, and a "Drop Zone" where players slid down a zipline and landed on a giant manhole.
- Alley Hoop - This was a 90-second challenge. One player threw basketballs from the ground to their partners, who were jumping off platforms. The partners had to catch the balls and throw them into a central hoop. Each basket was worth 10 points.
The Aggro Crag
The Aggro Crag was the final and most exciting challenge! It was a huge, 22-foot-tall (6.7 m) mountain that families had to climb to win the competition.
In the preliminary episodes, two players from a team climbed the Crag. The first player navigated wobbly "Ice-Surfin' Switchbacks" and climbed over "Skeleton Stalagmites." They had to activate three buttons, one at the end of their first section, called "Avalanche Peak," which had a "frozen lava storm" falling on them. This opened a special "Ice Portal" for the second player. The second player then crossed stepping stones over "The Glacial Gorge" and climbed two vertical rock walls called "The Vertical Freeze." They hit a final button at "Crystal Peak" to finish.
In the semifinal episodes, all four players had to climb the Crag! A new section called "The Mad Mesas" was added. This was a path of big boulders that the first contestant had to run over to reach the second player. Their final button opened a trapdoor in "Avalanche Peak," leading them to a "Swirling Vortex" slide. This slide took them behind the Crag to the third player, who had to get through a maze called "Crag Caverns." After the maze, they had to go all the way around "The Glacial Gorge" to reach the base of the mountain. This opened the "Ice Portal" for the fourth player, who then climbed "The Vertical Freeze" to win!
In the Aggro Bowls (the finals), things got even more intense! A control panel was added at the start of the "Crag Caverns." The third player from each team could use this panel to control extra snow and hail to make it harder for their opponents climbing the "Mesas" and "Switchbacks." Once the second player reached the third, they could take over the controls. They could then release "Arctic Steam" in the "Crag Caverns" and even drop an avalanche on the fourth players climbing "The Vertical Freeze"!
For each win, teams received a white "piece of the Aggro Crag." The overall champion of the tournament received all three pieces, including a much larger third piece. These pieces could be put together to form a miniature Aggro Crag trophy! The grand prize was an amazing trip on the Nickelodeon Family Cruise.
